An original German MP 40 (Maschinenpistole 40) submachine gun manufactured by C.G. Haenel Waffen und Fahrradfabrik, marked "MP40" on the receiver — one of the most recognizable firearms of the Second World War and one of the most influential submachine gun designs in history.
About the MP 40: Designed by Heinrich Vollmer and adopted by Nazi Germany in 1940 as an evolution of the earlier MP 38, the MP 40 was chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum and fed from a 32-round detachable box magazine. It was one of the first firearms to make extensive use of stamped steel, aluminum, and plastic components rather than costly machined parts, making it fast and economical to mass-produce — around 1.1 million were built between 1940 and 1945 across manufacturers including Erma Werke, Steyr, and C.G. Haenel. Issued primarily to squad leaders, paratroopers, and armored crews, its compact folding stock and reliable straight blowback action set the template for nearly every submachine gun design that followed it.
This example, produced by C.G. Haenel, retains its side-folding stock, original finish, and factory markings, including manufacturer code and date codes on the barrel and receiver.
